Tips to Help Prevent Credit/Check Card Fraud:

  • Coastal Community And Teachers Credit Union (CCATCU) does not give marketing companies “Member Lists” so they may contact our members.
  • If a company contacts you and asks whether you have a card with CCATCU, you should be very cautious and aware this may be a scam.
  • Never give your card number to verify any data.
  • There are several “Credit Card Protection Companies” contacting members regarding credit card insurance.  As a consumer, it is up to you to determine if you would like to participate in these programs.  CCATCU does not endorse nor recommend any particular vendor in regards to credit card protection.
  • Report lost or stolen cards immediately to the VISA department at (361) 985-0308 or 1-800-543-5073.
  • Sign your card as soon as you receive it.
  • Never write your PIN# on your card or keep your PIN# and card together.
  • Treat your cards as you would cash.  Do not leave them unattended.
  • Never give your account number over the phone unless you initiate the call.
  • Know the approximate delivery date of your card statements and check it, especially after a trip, for transactions that you did not complete.
  • Keep records of all card account numbers, expiration dates, lines of credit, and phone numbers in a secure location.
  • Never dispose of card receipts or statements without shredding, tearing up, or blacking out account numbers.
  • Close all unused card accounts and cut unwanted cards into several pieces before disposing of them.
  • Limit the number of cards you carry with you and keep all others in a secure location.
  • When using your card for Internet purchases, be sure the merchant has proper security measures in place.  If you are not sure, call them instead.

VISA CARD SECURITY

Your security is important to us.  That's why we've instituted the Falcon Fraud System.  With the Falcon System you'll receive continual monitoring of your credit card and check card activity to help identify and prevent possible fraudulent transactions on your CCATCU VISA Credit Card and your VISA Check Card.   Using a pattern established by your usage, Falcon will determine whether there is potential fraud.  If potential fraud is detected, you will be notified by telephone.  The good news is that other than informing the Credit Union of any changes in your personal contact information, you don't have to do a thing.  This is a FREE service and is automatically set up once your card is issued.

JUST ONE MORE REASON TO CHOOSE CCATCU FOR ALL YOUR FINANCIAL NEEDS.

If you have any further questions regarding the security of your CCATCU VISA Card, please email the VISA Dept. at cardcenter@ccatcu.com or call (361) 985-0308.

INTERNET BANKING PRECAUTIONS

In addition to the above, protect yourself against Internet Banking Fraud:

1. Never share credentials.

2. Ensure that any computer system used to connect to a banking website is updated with all applicable security patches.

3. Ensure that any computer system used to connect to a banking website has effective anti-virus software installed and the virus definitions are updated and installed automatically on a regular basis.

4. Initiate an anti-virus scan of any computer previously used to connect to a banking website. This should help uncover any viruses that have already been installed on the system. To remove an already present virus, the user may need to take additional steps including but not limited to, contacting technical support for the computer manufacturer or anti-virus company, or installing a fresh version of the operating system.

5. Consider subscribing to a credit monitoring service as a precaution against further identity theft.

6. Set up alerts to be notified of transactions or significant balance changes.

7. Monitor statistics and account history.

8. Monitor e-mail to ensure that a notification hasn't been received regarding a change of e-mail address.

9. Verify e-mail addresses periodically.

10. Change multi-factor authentication and PINs regularly.
